Andrew Smith

Meet Andrew Smith! Many of you know Andrew from shopping at Green’s Grocery in Gainesville. Andrew moved to the area in 2005 and has worked at Green’s Grocery ever since. He is an outdoor enthusiast and loves traveling and enjoying the Hall County area.

We recently caught up with Andrew to find out more about him and his love for Hall County.

Question: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
Answer: “I started working in the grocery business in high school being one of the only jobs to get that will work with school schedules. I am always up for a challenge and enjoy learning by doing, and I’ve always been comfortable meeting and talking to new people.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Hall County, and what do you love there?
A: “Stan’s Deli for a bacon cheeseburger and fries with a jumbo sweet tea. You know they get their ground beef from Green’s!”
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Hall County?
A: “I moved to Gainesville from Athens in July of 2005 and started at Green’s about two weeks later.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Hall County?
A: “I have met a lot of famous and interesting people working up at Green’s from professional athletes and coaches to many different political figures, but I think the most interesting people I’ve met are Suzanne and Wesley Gailey (the former owners of The Inn Between). They have really inspired me to get out and live. They gave me the push I needed to start traveling. Suzanne helped me plan my cross country trips giving me ideas of places and things to see as I explore our beautiful country. I didn’t grow up camping or anything, so it’s all relatively new to me and Wesley has given me great advice and some of his old gear.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: “I always love Colorado and Utah. I enjoy driving Jeep trails and getting out into the wilderness. We’ve got great mountains here, but you can’t really get away from it all on the East coast like you can out West.
Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
A: “The first movie I remember seeing was ‘Back to the Future 3’ at the drive in.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Life is short, take chances and make memories!”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I want to do the trans America trail. It’s a series of trails, logging roads, and farm roads that go from about Asheville, N.C. to Southwest Oregon.”
Q: What is your favorite music/ three bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: “Jim Croce, The Grateful Dead with Pigpen and Sublime.”
Q: What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Hall County?
A: “Green’s Grocery, of course!”
Q: Choosing anyone (past or present and a non-relative), with whom would you love to have lunch? And where locally would you have this lunch?
A: “Bradley Nowell the lead singer from Sublime for a late lunch at Recess. He seemed like a really cool guy who died too young.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?
A: “The lake!”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “Chilling and grilling at Green’s. It’s what I do.”
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I played classical bass for five years.”
